M.Ed. Special Education Administrator
This M.Ed. in Special Education—Special Education Administrator Concentration provides professional preparation for individuals seeking state licensure as special education administrators and prepares Candidates to provide leadership in special education and related services. The program is designed for psychologists, speech-language pathologists, special education teachers, other related services specialists, as well as those individuals who will have responsibility for directing, supervising, or coordinating special education and/or related services programs. Successful completion of this program leads to an Institutional Recommendation for an Alaska State Type ‘F’ Certificate: Special Education Administrator.
Note: The Type ‘F’ Special Education Administrator Certificate does NOT authorize the holder to serve as a building principal.
Admission
Requirements
1. Satisfy the admission requirements for Master’s Degrees as established by UAA and published in the most recent edition of the UAA catalog. 2. Provide transcripts documenting a minimum GPA of 3.0 in the most recent 30 credits.
3. Provide evidence of a current teacher certificate or related services certificate (Type “C”).
4. Submit a resume documenting at least 3 years of successful special education teaching, related service, or other corresponding experience.
5. Submit a statement on career goals and how they relate to the M. Ed. program.
6. Submit 3 letters of recommendation or rating forms from professional references, one of which must be from a supervisor.
7. Participate in an interview if requested by the Department.

A total of 36 credits are required for this degree. Candidates seeking a second Master’s degree must take EDRE A667 Program Evaluation and may complete the degree with fewer than 36 credits.
Course Delivery
The M.Ed. is offered by distance delivery mode. This requires access to the internet via cable or DSL modem. Students will need a microphone and headset and the necessary technology skills to access and navigate through Blackboard and Elluminate (eLive), the applications used for course delivery.
